The LIB Citizen is about taking the Lightning in a Bottle philosophy of “Leave It Better, Leave It Beautiful” from the festival out into our every day lives, so that we may actively engage with all of life as a proud citizen of our deeply connected planet.

Here you’ll find interviews with members of the LIB Community in their journey to take action in the world, as well as opportunities for you to join them. Whatever it is you are inspired to do, in the words of the Tibetan meditation master Milarépa as he spoke his last great secret to his student, “The important thing is to actually do it.”

Many thanks to everyone who supported the Rainforest Reverberation album release. Some news regarding this project: I am headed to Ecuador the last 1/2 of December with the Critical Beats/Amazonvoice.org crew to do some work on the ground with affected communities in the rainforest. We will be building permanent media centers in the Amazon allowing the indigenous communities to document their own culture and give them a “Voice” to speak of their stewardship of the rainforest habitat and document their struggle to maintain control over their own culture and lands. And most importantly, we have some specific needs to help make this all work out. Information below:

Got an old laptop you’d like to donate to save the world, or at least an important chunk of it?

Critical Beats can use it, along with digital video cameras, storage drives, etc. to empower indigenous communities in the Amazon with better tools to educate, report, and communicate issues of self-sustainability. For more info check out: http://www.amazonvoice.org/. If you’ve got something you’d like to donate email jeremy@criticalbeats.org.

Critical Beats for GaiaEarthdance International, Rainforest Action Network and Critical Beats for the Climate have teamed up to promote Critical Beats for Gaia – a new compilation album featuring DJ Spooky, Govinda, Bluetech, and other top artists in collaboration with Indigenous rainforest musicians. Each $10 donation towards the PEACE+TREES Campaign goes to support the Earthdance mission for peace and sustainability and directly benefits frontline rainforest communities through RAN’s Protect-An-Acre grants program and Amazon Voice – PLUS your donation will work to restore the ecology and economy of some of the world’s poorest places by planting a tree through the Green World Campaign! Help support the cause and get your free download of this exclusive album by making a donation of $10 or more to the PEACE+TREES Campaign.

So, I did it. I created a successful career in music. I’ve traveled around the world, created many albums, played in front of thousands of people, and my work is recognized globally.

Why does it hurt so much then? Every time I board another plane to another city to another airport to another hotel to another club to another airport to the next one, something inside me hurts. I’m burning fossil fuels to fly around the world and share my music for what?

I don’t need any more success. I don’t need any more recognition. I don’t need any more album sales, as I can get a job just like everyone else to pay my bills, though paying my rent from music is nice. I don’t need any more attention, accolades, props, or “likes” for what I do.

I need to make a mark. I need to leave something behind when my time in this world is done. I need to know that my life wasn’t just lived for me, that I actually did something with all of this energy and attention which is directed my way. It hurts to see my beautiful world damaged, and to know that I am also directly responsible for that, either through my actions, or more importantly through my inactions.

So I have another album. If it’s just for my own ego satisfaction, then it’s not worth releasing. I found that I had no reason to do this anymore, because you’ve all heard what I have to say musically, and we’ve all danced under many many moons to these beats which flow through me. I had to find a way to make it matter. So here it is:

I’m proud to announce Rainforest Reverbation: An Amazon Benefit. 100 percent of the proceeds of this album work to end deforestation, species loss, and cultural upheaval in the amazon. You can find out a lot more about the specifics at: http://www.amazonvoice.org/
www.criticalbeats.org

I’m full of gratitude that I found a way, a tiny way to give back a tiny bit through this tiny offering that I made. I hope you enjoy the music, but even more, I hope that it inspires you to take one little action that matters, and to think about your art and your offering, and how to make it count.

If supporting the protection of the plants, people & culture of the amazon through this music feels good to you, you can find some purchase links below, including full album streaming at bandcamp.
